Part 2 of the Locked Closet

Locked Closet

Part 2! For part 1 go here

The small golden bell welcomed the trio into the shop. There were decorations everywhere! Party hats on one wall, streamers on another. There was even a whole aisle just for birthday wrapping paper. Shopping was such a blast that all worries were forgotten. “Amanda, look at this!” “Isabel, do you like this color?” “Abigail, what do you think of this style of hat?” Laughter, giggles and little disagreements on color burst from every corner of the small store. Before the girls knew it the cashier came and told them the store would be closing in ten minutes. So, the battle of deciding began! “I think you should choose a color first and then pick everything else to go with that color,” Isabel suggested. “What color do you think?” Amanda asked excitedly. “Blue or red, they are both so pretty.” Isabel said gleefully.

They finally walked out of the shop and started down the road homeward. The chatter didn’t stop once. When they got back to Amelia’s house the sun was starting to make the soft orange shadows on the trees. It was so peaceful looking. “Thanks Isabel for helping! It was so much fun. Do you want to come over the night before the party and help put up the decorations?” asked Amanda. “Sure! If my parents say yes, but, I’m sure they will.” The Twins started down the hill towards their home. It had been the best day in a long time! Isabel couldn’t wait to tell her mom all about it while helping her make dinner.

“Mom, I’m home.” The house was dark, which made the cheer drain out of her. Maybe mom is on the couch sleeping because of her headache. She dimmed the lights on in the hallway slowly. What she saw startled her! It was a wreck! Picture frames that once hung on the green walls were now thrown onto the floor with glass broken everywhere. Isabel’s only photo of her great-grandmother was destroyed. Isabel’s mind raced. She was so confused! Her happy day changed into an awful day. A dark cloud shadowed her. Suddenly her mind and body worked together. “Mom, dad,” Isabel screamed as she ran around the rooms. She carefully walked around the glass on the floor and then jogged up the stairs, two by two. It looked worse upstairs than down! The walls were all torn at. Where there used to be a painting, it was now ripped up dry wall. Isabel looked around and then slowly walked into her room.

To be continued.....
