Learning life lessons...on Christmas break?

January 7, 2015
With the Christmas and New Year holiday fun gone, it's time to get back to school! How has that been for you? I started on Monday, so I've been slowly getting back into it. I was surprised by how much I actually missed it during the Christmas break. I was longing to something other than the Christmas break norm of reading, chatting with friends, and looking at blogs. Seriously, my poor friends and I were running out of things to talk about! I was counting down the days to start my history course, get back to my ASL, and Algebra. I couldn't wait to learn
 But, then it hit me.
I felt empty. School had taken over my life. It was my goal. It was my every thought. What do I have to do next? What should I study for? Oh dear! I should do more Algebra. Look at the time...I still haven't done my American Sign Language yet.

I would get soooooo stressed out about it.

Because I forced myself into thinking school was everything.

I forgot something really important.

Reading my Bible.

Talking to God.

Praying.

And, most importantly, being like Jesus.

I became grumpy and stressed. Making my needs important. My grades. How much school I got done. I seriously forgot that Jesus loved me even if I was behind in algebra a bit. I didn't have time to read the Bible...but Jesus had time to speak those words for us to read.

It isn't about me. It is about Him!

I learned more than I thought I did over Christmas break. A lesson worth learning! Thank you Lord for teaching me. I wonder what my next lesson will be? :)

What about you? What has God been teaching you? Do you get caught up in life and forget about after this life sometimes?

  1. We've all gone through times like this-it's so easy to fall into this trap.
I've started school again too- I'm trying to ease myself back into it. Especially getting up so early. ;)
    Have a blessed day!

    1. Thanks for your encouraging comment, Grace! :) How are your studies going? I was expecting my algebra to be a lot harder after being away from it for a while. Thankfully, I was wrong! Haha, I don't like getting up early either. :D

    2. Getting back in the rountine of things was actually fairly easy. (School is cancelled for today- so that gives me some more time to catch up!)
I really don't like Algebra- I don't why but I've never liked math! Maybe I'm crazy, but it's never been a favorite....:) I love reading and history, (I also adore my teacher and class for those subjects-which is partially why I love them so much!) and it was really fun to get back to those!
      Have a wonderful day!

    3. Oh awesome! I had a day off yesterday since I had to go to the doctors. Algebra can be hard..but I try not to think about and just get it done. Sometimes, you have to do that with certain things your don't like...you know, like washing dishes or something. :) I love reading and history too! I am actually basically doing all history right now, which is pretty awesome. :) But then..in a month or so, it will be a lot of science. Bleck. :P haha! Do you have a lot of snow?

    4. We've had a little bit of snow, nothing major. We had a lot of snow in November!

    5. We did too, but we are going to get 6 inches of snow today on top of the 3 that we already have. :P How cold is it for you? -16 is normal over here...

    6. Wow- that's cold! It's a little under 0° over here!

Anyways, those do sound like fun courses and classes... Well, as fun as school is I guess. Surprisingly. the week going back to school hasn't been too bad. Praise God for that :)

  3. Great post, Julia! I'm already done with school but I continue to learn everyday. I love it when the Lord shows me new things in His Word. Lately I've been reading a book on the Proverbs 31 woman. It has been so awesome. I hope and pray God will help me be like her both now and in the future when I have my own home and family.
Thanks for your post. Keep learning and sharing!!

  4. Great post, Julia! This is a very good lesson, and a very encouraging post. :-) I do have tendency to get caught up with life sometimes, and not remember to read my Bible, and other things like that. This post was a wonderful reminder. :-)

    1. Thanks Katie! It was a real good eye opener writing the post too. Sometimes your thoughts get all jumbled up in your head, but writing them down can make them so much clearer. :)

  5. Yes, yes, yes! This has been my week for the past several days. I've been so stressed about school too that I can't think straight and calm down, at all. I'm going to try to listen for Him more. :)

    xoxo Morning

    1. Really? Have any tips for me? ;) I don't mind it, but actually motivating myself to move and get it done can be hard when I'd rather read. ;)
