Yamaha keyboard // 2 miles

July 20, 2015
Ever since I was young, I've adored blueberries. If anyone asks me what my favorite fruit is, I would say blueberries. It used to watermelon..but that ranks 2nd now. ;) Anywho! I count down the days until it is blueberry time...then it's time to get picking. Usually Bree and I (sometimes Sarah too!) ride our bikes down to the berry patch (about two miles there) and fill up 3 gallons of blueberries. (we do this many times..like 3-5 trips) "1 for the bucket, 3 for me." is often how my berry picking goes. Haha!

The elderly gentleman who owns the blueberry patch is one of those grumpy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside types after you get to know him. :D He takes such loving care with his blueberries and bees that he keeps on the berry patch. I look forward to talking with him as he picks berries with me and my sisters. He is so kind! I love how he always eats as he picks blueberries... I'm amazed that he isn't sick of them yet after so many years! haha! He also tells us stories about when he was young...like how he meet his lovely wife (and they have been married for 50 years, I believe!), when his children were born, what he did when he was a young man, etc. He is very wise and sweet. :D
Annnnnnddd look what my parents got for my siblings and me!! Yes, a Yamaha keyboard! And, it isn't just any old keyboard... it is a weighted keyboard. :D It sounds so lovely! I don't really know much about playing the piano, but this fall I am going to start learning. I am so very excited. :D And, since I cannot just sit and wait until fall, I have started practicing by watching videos on Youtube. I am a big jazz fan, so I'm learning Autumn Leaves by Nat King Cole. :) It's a blast! I cannot wait until I can read the notes, understand cords, and all the piano knowledge stuff. ;)

Can you play the piano?? If so, what are you learning now?
Do you pick fresh blueberries?
What is your favorite fruit? :)

    1. LOL! If I can make blueberries look good to a blueberry hater, then I am glad! ;) Aww, I started when I was 7, but I have forgotten a ton now as well. Well, I'm willing to learn again! :D

  2. I also have a keyboard at home! It currently sits in my brother's room, but he doesn't really have an interest playing it unless "Fire and Soul" starts to creep back up in his mind. My family goes blueberry picking sometimes, too! The trouble is that one of the only places that people are allowed to pick berries is a hiking mountain, and you have to get up about three-fourths of the way in order to reach and pick them!

    xoxo Morning

  3. Hi Julia!
Yes, I can play the piano, although I very rarely do. My sister Grace is really good though. She and Michaela have a duet they play together called Pride of the Regiment. You and Sarah should try it! We (Michaela, Grace, and I) were just talking last night about learning more duets! :) I don't pick blueberries, but I do eat them! ;) I don't know that I have a favorite fruit. Strawberries are pretty yummy!
    Love you friend!

    1. Ohh, Lydia! That sounds awesome! Sarah and I were talking about duets, but we didn't know of any. Thanks so much for telling us of that one. :D Do you know of any more? Lol! Blueberries are awesome, even if you didn't pick them. ;) Mmmm..strawberries! <3

  4. Those blueberries are making my mouth water! They look so delicious.
When I we little, we used to live in a house right next to some cow paddocks. And every year the paddocks used to get black berries and we used to pick them. It was a lot of fun.
Congratulations on the keyboard! I' love playing the piano. I'm currently learning three piece for first grade and I'm also teaching myself three pieces on the side. I play classical piano mainly.
I hope your piano goes well!

    1. Aww, thanks! They are really good. I ate a ton today when we went picking again. LOL
Ohh, that is so cool! I love blackberries. :D Thanks! Wow, you are learning a lot. :D I love classical too, but I really am in a jazzy mood. I have been working on learning the right hand (cords) today. uhg, it is so hard! I can't even think about putting both hands together yet. lol! Thanks, Sophie! I would love it if you would put a video up of you playing the piano. :D

  6. I play piano fairly often, thanks to my wonderful grandma who teaches me! ;) I'm not learning anything new at the moment, but hope to soon. And I kinda like raw blueberries but can't stand cooked ones. :P

  7. MM, BLUEBERRIES. They are seriously the best...we've been picking for this one man since he and his wife are moving into a retirement home and they have a beautiful orchard of blueberries, blackberries, and so many other berries. I'm not even kidding, there's probably like at least 100 on each bush. Anyways, we're super busy now so I don't know if we're going to go back and pick but I sure do know what blueberry picking is like! It sure can get tiring, but if you're doing it with friends and having fun, it's actually pretty great.
Oooh, your new keyboard looks so nice! I once started learning, but my friend who was teaching got married and moved away.. (and totally random note, but she's now expecting a baby, which is prettty exciting :) so that kind of went down the drain ^_^ oh well, i'm sure you'll do amazing at it!
oh, and by the way, i'm not allowed on my hangout for a little now, so if you don't mind, we can probably chat through comments like in the "good old days" xD but yeah...that's why i didn't get back to you on that for a while. =)

    1. Wooooooaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. That is awesome! <3 I sure hope you can go back and pick! Berries are simply amazing fresh. :D Yeah, that is true. My sister(s) and I usually talk about stuff, sing, stuff ourselves with blueberries lol!, and goof off. ;) It's a sister blast time.
Ohh, it is! I love it so much. :D Aww, that's too bad.. but a baby! Aww! That's awesome! :D I'm sure you'll enjoy holding the baby more than playing the piano. ;) Hopefully you'll be able to start up again sometime. :)
Oh okay, yeah, we can just use comments and such! :D What's new with you? :) I had such a busy day yesterday! lol! Blogpost soon. ;)

  8. I love blueberries! Since I have diabetes I can't eat all the fruit but berries are even adviced, so I'm really happy about that. I also love strawberries and cherries. Basically summer fruit I suppose? :D
My grandpa is like that as well, he loves telling stories about his life and I love listening to him. Old people are just lovely. :) Great post and blog! xxx

  9. This was an exciting post! I loved your description of blueberry picking with the owner, he sounds like a nice guy.
I can't play piano but my husband does. He took lessons for about 13 or 14 years! I'm very interested in music though, so I do understand chords and can read music to some degree.

    1. Haha! He is! the other day my sister and I rode our bikes down to his patch and we didn't wear shoes.. lol! (we don't really like shoes in the summer ;)) and he jokingly said "where are ya shoes?" and I said "it's summer!" ;) He just chuckled. :D Wow! Your husband is amazing! Does he play for you often? :) Maybe he could show you some stuff. :)
