overcoming my fears // leap year

February 29, 2016

I am very introverted. You really know that is true when you sleep for 12 hours straight after a 4 hour bridal shower... *cringes from the incredulous stares* I think my introverted self has overcome my extroverted bubbly self, cause it's down there! I just let my fears win. Now, I see that maybe I've missed out on a lot because of that.

At the bridal shower, Bree was her normal self and I felt like I couldn't do that. lol My mom tried to make me wear a name tag with "Julia" plastered on it. I crumpled that in my fist because at that moment, I wasn't me. "Fear" should have been labeled on the sticky piece of paper. God knew I wanted to go home, so He helped me to feel at home. The blessing of a smile and one certain amazing woman turned my fear into dust! *poof* just like that and it was no longer ruling me. The difference was startling!

Caleb: "Jula, (my 2 youngest siblings call me that)...if..um, some people are on the moon at night and then morning comes, will they fall off?"
Me: *chuckles* "No buddy...you see, the moon doesn't leave. We just can't always see it in the day."

2016 is one of those odd years - we got an extra day! Leap Year is seriously something that never crossed my mind. I never thought that someone may have a birthday on February 29th, a day we only get every 4 YEARS. *jaw drop* just let that soak in...

What does it take to come out of your bubble??
Do you know someone with a Leap Year birthday?

  1. What does it take to get me out of my bubble? Hmmm . . . I think I'm only able to bond with people who are truly "Old Souls." :)

    1. Sophia - hi!! :D Aw, thanks! Do you have days where you are more introverted than extroverted..yet you are still a mixture of both? lol it's horribly confusing! ;) haha!! The poor dear - did her parents pick a random day for her lost birthdays? lol!

  4. I IDENTIFY WITH YOUR INTROVERTED STRUGGLE!!!! Because I'm the so often the saaaaaaame way. It takes a lot for me to want to crawl out of my shell and actually be with people. I've been trying lately to be more relaxed about it -- not to let my shyness bother me, just deal with it, so I can overcome it, but it's NEVER easy. ;-P But on the occasions when I do overcome it, it's worth it. So hang in there, Julia! Sometimes that's all it takes -- a smile or an encouraging word. Those are so meaningful. ;-)

    1. Oh my gosh - really?! I just KNEW you and I connected on a random level, and I didn't think it was just books, westerns and blogging, lol! We are introverted together. :P Oh I know...my little shell is so stinking cozy though. hehe! It honestly is worth it, isn't it! <3 You too, Emma, we've got this! A smile is one of the best things.. I guess I decided I want to be that smile for other people too. Working on that. ;)

  5. I'm mostly extrovert. Though if I'm around a bunch of people I don't know, I'm kind of shy until someone actually expresses an interested in talking to me, then I'll open up and be myself:)
Lol! My grandpas birthday was on leap day!<3
Being a little random here, but that salad looks deliciously amazing! *smacks lips*

Woah, really? hahaa, that was at the party. It had strawberries and raspberries, feta cheese, sliced almonds, and this amazing dressing!! IT WAS SO STINKING GOOD.

  7. Great post Julia! So I did what you said and let the fact that some people have a b-day on leap day soak in lol;) And WOW! Ive never thought about that, and its just so incredible!! When do they celebrate their birthday on years without leap days? Do they just pick a random day in the month? Like how awesome would that be!!!;) lol!

It doesn't take much to get me out of my bubble...im extremely extraverted;) But I still understand that scared shyness that takes over when meeting new people! Like when I meet other teens I can get kinda scared like "what will they think of weird, homeschooled me?" haha;) When that happens I pray like crazy and force myself to be calm and unscared;) And it works, thank the Lord!;)

    1. Thank you! Hahaa - I know. It's really weird huh? I am so super glad I wasn't born on a leap year day...or whatever you call it. ;) I guess they probably pick a random day! If I was that person, I would choose a different day each year. Then everyone would feel so stressed that they could never remember the day! JK!
Oh really? That's neat! That is like Bree. She's VERY extroverted. ;) Haha, being homeschooled is NOT weird. It's seriously a blessing and an honor! Aww, how sweet <3

  8. I actually relate to you on that SO much. I'm an ENFP, and it's said that they are like the only extroverts who will take time to unwind and like being by themselves sometimes....SO YEAH. That's totally me. Probably most people would think i'm an introvert....but haha, once they'd get to know me, they might reconsider that :) haha...yeah...just a tad bit. XD but yeah, actually, one of my teachers said he knew of a couple who had three children, all born on leap days in leap years. One in 2000, one in 2004, and one in 2012....WOAH. =) You have a brother named Caleb? That's sort of interesting, since like some of my friends who (basically, their whole family sort of just acknowledges me too as like "one of their own" ;) haha... i mean not really, but we're like really close sort of if that made ANY sense) and one of her brothers is named Caleb too. *laughs* yeah...he's quite a character.

Say's I'm a ISTP....but I think this cold is throwing me off. :P
Woah, that is so cool!!! Who would have knew?! Haha, yes, and he's a stinking darling. ;) lol! You seriously have no idea how much I love how you ramble! :D How are you? :D

  9. I was reading this and it reminded me back a couple months ago when I got just such encouragement! We were at church for a bereavement dinner for one of our friend's sisters, and, though I knew that this friend felt like she needed us to be there, and nothing makes me happier than to be able to fill a need, I was going through a rough time. My health (or not?) had been bothering me, and I was just kind of down. I was also missing our Pastor's wife, who I consider my best friend from here, who had left a couple weeks earlier to take care of her Dad. While there are many people at the church who I love, and who I will often make sure to tell hi before I leave, there were none I could really hold a conversation with, every week, without her having to come find me herself, like Miss Lisa. That day I just felt like I couldn't "people", although I am usually one of the most social members of my family. But the Lord sent me a smile (and hugs!) and some encouraging words from another member of our church (and then another!), and you are right :). Sometimes that timely word can fix everything!
I know a guy with a leap-year birthday! He turned "10" this year, haha, and, to celebrate, he took his kiddos to any ten years old's dream birthday party at Chuck E Cheese, haha :). I thought it was cute :). Incidentally, that family has been a big blessing since Miss Lisa left. They had a baby soon after, and so it gave me a reason to talk to Miss Kristen. I've enjoyed holding her babies and having little chats with her over the past several months, and getting to know her 10 year old daughter better, who is THE most hilarious, adorable, grown up ten year old I've ever known, haha! The kiddos give me something to talk about to her without feeling like I'm doing terrible at holding up my end of the conversation, and I'm thankful I have that now :).

    2. Oh, I'm fine now! Don't worry about me, haha! Even while I was having the issues, it wasn't serious, just draining, after months of dealing with it. I was just having high bp, chills, and terrible shaking attacks, along with just feeling lousy. We're not sure if I was caffeine sensitive, vitamin D deficient, or if it was just some weird fluke (or all of the above!), but it has gotten much better this year :).
And yes, babies are the best :)!
And I apologize for the comment about as long as your blog post :P. I just realized how long it was... haha! And that was after I edited it :P....

    3. oh my word, that sounds horrible!! I'm glad it's getting better though... :P Hahaa! Don't apologize!! It was honestly amazing to read all of that - I just didn't know what you say. :P I loved reading it though!! I would love it if you always had such long comments. :D :D

    4. DID YOU JUST GIVE ME PERMISSION TO NOT WORRY ABOUT POST-LONG COMMENTS? Watch out world, haha :)! And I just wanted to make sure you know that the real deal was that I hadn't seen my comment outside the collapsed comment box, so I was shocked at the length, and I always feel awkward when I find my comment was that long, haha :). It had nothing to do with you :).

  10. I am super introverted too! If I am around people for several hours, I have to go up to my room and have some "alone time"--usually bringing a good book and my kindle upstairs. :)

  12. I think it takes someone being very talkative and kind (in other words, kinda outgoing) for me to be outgoing back. ;) I know no person born on Leap Day (that's a little terrible!). Haha...

    YOU'RE NOMINATED, JULIA! (http://adventuresbeyondthehorizon.blogspot.com/2016/03/the-liebster-award.html)

      oh!! Thank you! :D :D

  13. Ah I used to be SO shy and still can be at times and it annoys myself so much! :( I've gotten better thankfully and a couple things that help me is the "fake it 'til you make it" idea to a degree, I just remember that these people have no idea what I'm like and if you start off acting confident it will carry you through with keeping that confidence act on...and they will see you as that. ASK QUESTIONS-not too many of course, and then listen and you will find more things to talk about with the answers they give you. But overall this describes me well: "strangers think I'm quiet, friends think I'm out-going, but my best friends know that I'm completely insane"! ;)

    1. IKR?! It seriously feels like an inward battle, huh? :P Hey, that's really cool! I never really thought of that. I think I'm a terrible at being fake bubbly though. :P At least when I'm uncomfortable. lol! I love the asking questions tip.. I'll have to remember that! Oh dear, that is me too. Especially with my sisters ;)

  14. I have to admit, that was pretty cool to think about someone having a birthday on Leap Day. The thought had never crossed my mind before!

Oh, I totally know what you're talking about... I'm an INFP-T, "59% introverted". I hate meeting new people. Though I don't mind it so much if it's online. But even by email, it still freaks me out. (Don't tell Sarah I said that... wait nevermind ;)I don't mind being outgoing if I'm with a group of people I know and trust to some degree, but if I'm around a bunch of strangers or people I don't know well, it's just, no. Haha. But then you end up living life as a lie, if you will. You wear a mask all of the time so that people don't see who you really are, and it gets so, so hard. Especially introverts who are people-pleasers, like I am. It's hard to not be outgoing. It's hard when it's hard making friends. So yeah, I'm an introvert. :P

A bridal shower... sounds, interesting. ;) Sounds pretty though, haha.

    1. lol!! I agree! I don't think I would personally like it though..you know? :p

I'm an ISTP - but I used to be an ISFJ...odd huh? But, I feel like ISTP fits me more! One of the weakness is major stubbornness...haha, yeah, that's me. LOL! I honestly read your comment about Sarah and laughed! She was already reading over my shoulder - so sorry. ;) lol I'm very similar to that as well. I guess us introverted people stick together. lol!

Have you never been to a bridal shower?? lol

    2. Yeah, I'm not sure how that would work. I like to celebrate my birthday on a yearly basis. ;)

That is strange! I think mine would have changed over the years, too. I don't know what I used to be though. I changed dramatically over the past year and a half or so, and I got way more introverted since then. (And she told me she read the comment. ;)

I did once, but I was doing mostly work in the kitchen and serving so I didn't get to enjoy it like I could have. :P I don't like things like bridal showers and graduations... Why have I reached the point where my friends are grown up and leaving me?! Just... why!!
