i was gonna work at a camp this summer but..... // LEARNING HOW TO ACCEPT CHANGE WITH A SMILE

March 17, 2017

okay so summer plans. Everyone is making them right? I was too, except I was trying be a grown up about them...to not get my hopes up to high and to remember to not set them in stone before a definite answer was given.

You see, I put in an application to work at a Christian camp that I really, really love. I had to fill out a ton of paperwork, get references, find out dates, etc. It was a learning curve for me. A few days after my email went through, I got a super positive response! An interview would be happening sometime in March. Like, talk about scary and exciting.

I was encouraged to contact previous volunteers who did the same thing I was interested in - so with the help of my friend *waves to shelby*, I was able to do that. basically that was the best bc wow I got really pumped up to work with these peeps!

Just the other day, I got a phone call. I'm not going to the camp. Basically, they had an overflowing amount of young adults willing to stay the entire summer and since I wasn't able to commit to that, they decided to only have to train their volunteers once. (which makes total sense)

but like.. wow, talk about disappointing. I had been planning a lot of things for camp, even though I tried hard to not to. I thought about chapel meetings, how much I would miss blogging and my family, the experiences and hard stuff I would go through.

but you know what? I was also relieved. There were a lot of reasons I wasn't looking forward to being gone for so long. Truthfully, I'm introverted and that alone scared me.  *sees all the sympathetic looks out there*

so now I'm left on this verge of mixed emotions and the realization that I'm not going to work at the camp and I'm beginning to see how exciting that is in a way. I'm graduating in early May + planning a trip (shhhhh nobody is supposed to know yet) which is leaving me with an "empty" summer.

It won't be empty though. I will have so many opportunities - things I can do. I can just as easily serve my family and friends as I could the kids up at camp. I can garden here, be a lifeguard at our own pool, enjoy my last true summer reading, not miss out on so many amazing people's birthday's and graduations also JULY CAMP NANO HERE I COME.

I can just be. and geesh guys - I'm so excited for that.

also I finally cleaned out my inbox uhm *cough* it was bad. Also, I apologize if you're one of the effected people by the blizzard that hit the east coast... like i pray you've got a lot of books :P

oh and wear green today or else you'll get pinched ;) just warning you *pinches you anyways*

p.s. this post makes me think of my own poem I wrote a few months back if you wanna read it

what are you doing this summer?
when was the last time you just...lived??

  4. Wonderful! I really appreciate those experiences where God closes the door, and opens up a whole new one that happens to be so much better. :) Hang in there!
When was the last time I 'lived'? Well, right now my hormones have been skyrocketing because I'm in that sort-of age-group, and it is completely terrible. So this feeling has come over me where I just take it one day at a time. One hour at a time, one chore at a time. And I think that's the closest I can get to living. XD
This Summer? My family and I have a couple of trips planned. We're going to New York and Oregon, but other than that -- we probably have a few more things planned but I can't really think of any right now -- I think it's going to be a nice learning experience. (Yes! We do Summer Reading Lists, too!!)
Oh and, thank goodness I remembered to where green because years ago I would get pinched/tickles ALL. THE. TIME!! XDD

    1. Agreed! For me, I think I saw the other door the whole time and was just as eager for that, but willing to try going to camp. I guess God just decided not this year - and that's okay.
haha! Yup. I know that - but that's living. In fact, better than looking too far into the future.
ooooh how fun! I'm coming with you to New York cuz my new story is set there and I need research k ;)
awwww too bad - my family is complaining cuz I'm kinda wearing a blue green? but sorry, I don't like greenn :P

  5. I'm so proud of you, girl!! But what's THE COOLEST THING EVER is that I kind went through the same thing too. I had BIG PLANS for this summer. And I didn't want to do any of them. My parents wanted me to work at a camp or go on this huge mission trip and yeah . . . I'm gonna be 18 and I should be doing all this stuff, BUT I'M INTROVERTED TOO. I was SCARED. OUT. OF. MY WITS. But then I remembered how good God has been to me and decided to trust Him with my summer.

And LITERALLY . . . a few weeks later, working at camp all summer fell through. I wasn't able to go on the grand Tour of Europe (aka singing missions trip). And my dad wasn't going to make me go on a drama team. So now I have an "empty" summer too. But not really . . .

    1. Yeah, I remember you telling me all that stuff. It's terrifying to have to do something so totally out of your comfort zone - I know that for sure.

waiiiiiiit you didn't tell me this. *pouts*

    2. WAAAAAAHHHHHT I DIDN'T?? There's no way!! *falls over* *dies* I'm excited to have a normal-ish summer though. Rachel and I will work on our business and I'll do soccer and camps and stuff, but nothing fancy.

  8. Oh, I'm sorry :( Summer plans can be so exciting - but they can change so fast *hugs*

This summer looks crazy uncertain for me. Like...my family might be moving. I'm going to be helping my dad with his business. AND I'm learning to drive O.O But I'm not sure how any of that is going to happen if we move or not... However, I'm really excited to be spending this summer with my family, not away dancing for 8 hours a day :P

*swats your hand away* I don't wear green very much! xD

I hope your summer will be amazing <3

I love the moments when I'm in the middle of a really messy week and then I just stop, put down what I was doing. And breathe.

  11. Aw, I'm sorry you're not going to get to work at that camp! But OH WOW, you're graduating in May - that's SO COOL, GRACIOUS.

This summer? Well it's all up in the air right now, but I'll probably be learning to drive, procrastinating on writing (WHAT ELSE IS NEW), and spending time with a new sibling, come August (part of my family says that August is fall but NO AUGUST IS SUMMER).

Also I'm wearing green. I even drew a green flower on my arm two days before today JUST IN CASE I forgot. I'm not getting pinched *crosses arms defiantly* xD.

  12. Wow, this post is really well timed. I've gotten my hopes up for this high school summer writing program at a college I'm interested in, but I don't even know if I'll be able to do it yet (I just found out about it and only have limited time to apply and scrape together money and the other things I need). I, too, have been telling myself "don't get too invested; otherwise you'll be reeeaally disappointed if you can't go" and "if it's meant for you, it'll happen". But of course I'm all excited anyway.

Your post has really given me perspective, and reminded me that when God says no, we shouldn't pout or whine or be angry. We should smile, thank Him, and look on the bright side. I'm going to remember this post when I feel myself getting too worked up, and remind myself that "the Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever" (Psalm 138:8)

I hope your summer turns out lovelier than you could've imagined! :)

wow...girl, you are so right and sometimes it's really hard to do sometimes you know. I had a day ( I promise you ) where I was disappointed and a bit upset that I couldn't go... but you're right too, He does have a plan. <3 thanks

aww! Same for you!! btw, like I said before, I'm really glad you're back in the blogging world

  13. Hey Juj,
I just want to say, your outlook on life is so and convicting and encouraging! Not knowing exactly what I am doing next in my life is something I have been struggling with. Thank you for posting this. It affirmed that I am where God wants me right now and that I can just enjoy life! Thank you again. I know that God is going to use you in mighty ways this summer and in 2017 as a whole. Keep shining for Him right where He has you!

We're having a family reunion on my dad's side of the family this summer! So exciting! :D We had one with my mom's side last summer. We're going to rent a "manor" all for ourselves. =D
Besides that I don't know what we'll be doing this summer... I'd like to get a job. Hopefully I'll have my license by then. :)
But me and my sisters are going to the beach this spring!! Were meeting family, but we'll be flying by ourselves. Adventure awaits! ;D
