IS THE MUSIC YOU ARE LISTENING TO HELPING YOU?

June 13, 2018

I'm big into music. it's incredibly rare that I don't have it playing in some form. I love a wide variety of music as well.

  • Christian contemporary (FOR KING AND COUNTRY, NEEDTOBREATHE, MATTHEW WEST, BRANDON HEATH, HANNAH KERR, PLUMB, JORDAN FELIZ, DAVID DUNN, TAUREN WELLS, RYAN STEVENSON AND MORE)
  • Jazz. oh man, my lovely jazz.
  • ALL THE MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS EVVVVVVVVVVERR ( hello dolly, music man, mary poppins, like everything disney, ya know, veggietale silly songs with larry)
  • just plain piano. so calming
  • but also some 50's-80's music?? LOL

so music means a lot to me. I practically have it coming from my pocket always lolol (IF ONLY I KNEW HOW TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT oh sadness) and the other day when I was working in the garden, listening to For King and Country's album RUN WILD. LIVE FREE. LOVE STRONG. for the 501408527068th time (I'm basically addicted to this album rn and listen to it constantly lol) and the song that was on was "MATTER" and it basically was going

"you matter. I hope you know you matter"

and I was struck with how glad I was these were the words that I were hearing because the thought of hearing

"you don't matter. YOU REALLY ARE DIRT"

would hurt and after a short period of time I would believe it and well....I think that's a really sad place to be. I felt loved to hear that I mattered and felt empowered by the thought of God is love and He created me and in this moment what I'm going through matters. That He already knows about it.

I feel like the world has romanticized pain and having a self image of BLAH. I don't listen to a lot of popular/new music but I think if I picked 5 random ones, they would be about heartbreak, love, sadness or being lost/empty/searching for something.

in part, I want to thank the artists who choose to uplift and praise with their talent. impact is being made. lasting waves are taking effect. love is being felt. and on the other hand, I would love to ask you to use your talent as such. I'm afraid that joy is slipping through the cracks of a very empty land. so i pray,

Oh God, bring peace to this troubled land.

FAVORITE SONG(S) RIGHT NOW???
THOUGHTS ON THE LYRICS IN THE SONGS YOU'RE LISTENING TO RN ?

p.s. ceasefire and matter and live long and .. well. lol. you should really just listen to the album from for king and country through. it's like a book xxxx

  1. Oh my word, I LOVE for king and country!! Their songs are some of my favorites. Especially "Fine Fine Life" and "To the Dreamers" <3 <3. I completely agree--we need to be careful about what we're listening to. Currently, I'm listening to the Greatest Showman soundtrack, which is utterly amazing :D.
    great post, Julia! <3

  6. AGH I LOVE THIS POST AND FOR KING AND COUNTRY. Long Live is just the song of my heart....that and To the Dreamers because I am a dreamer and a klutz and laugh at the wrong times and I'm rather childlike and I chase random ideas, but THOSE SONGS ENCOURAGE ME. <3 Thanks for this Julia.

  7. WOW YES I've been thinking about this recently too. I've never listened to mainstream music, but what little I have heard honestly saddens me most of the time. I get that not all "secular" music is the same, but there are a lot out there that are just kinda...hopeless.

This is definitely a super important subject :)

  8. OH WOW ALL THE YES.

I listen to Christian music mostly, too. Or music by Christian artists. Like, Owl City is my FOREVER FAVORITE and he is a Christian - but most of his songs are not explicitly Christian, if you know what I mean.

ALL THOSE ARTISTS YOU MENTIONED <333

At my work place the are constantly playing this same radio station of all the HITS and argh. So ANNOYING. The same thing over and over. A lot of them aren't really EXPLICITLY INAPPROPRIATE - but they HINT at it. They are SUGGESTING IT. my favorite artist on that station is Imagine Dragons :P

Lately I've been going through all of Spotify's Christian playlists and saving the artist's I like so that I can listen to ALL THEIR ALBUMS later on. So much fun XD

And getting my sister addicted to Spotify is fun - except when she steals my earphones D:

PS. WAIT WHAT YOU LINKED TO ME NO WAY THANK YOU SO MUCH THAT IS ... SO KIND OF YOU ... excuse me while I go and recover ....

  9. SO TRUE. haha, i think the only heartbreak song i've ever listen to is Marry Me by Thomas Rhett, but it all turns out great in the MusicVideo, lolol. I'm a big fan of Country. BUT usually clean, ;D And Christian Contemporary is great.

  10. FOR KING AND COUNTRY YES GIRl! So i found out they're have a FREE concert at my state fair this year! I want to go soooooo bad, but my dad kind of hates most concerts :'( ALSO NEEDTOBREATHE AND TAUREN WELLS! I love what you said about lyrics and stuff. Our parents always taught us to make sure we know what exactly we're listening to, so I try to be aware. I mostly listen to Christian, but I ADORE 40s-50s music <3 (mainly the songs in a show called "call the midwife" Its beautiful). Also Brian Crain (piano) and SLEEPING AT LAST (<--- seriously go listen. Saturn and light are two of my faves)

  14. PS I have heard of some For King And Country songs before I don't listen to them all the time though. One of my favorite songs is the song Forever by Kari Jobe. It is like the best! 😊✌ Have you ever heard of Kari Jobe before?
