how i wrote 30k // camp nano

August 1, 2016

GUUUUUUUUYYS

I did it. I wrote 30,078 words in ONE MONTH. LIKE WHATTTTTT. how?? I don't even know!! Well, maybe I do. It was a lot of Jane Eyre soundtrack music, (PLEASE THANK ABBIE FOR TELLING ME WHO THE AMAZING DARIO MARIANELLI IS), water (i mean a lot), Sarah (guys i would have died without her -- okay okay??), Sarah's alphasmart...guuuuuys, alright let me just admit it here and now.

Sarah is like the sole reason why I did Camp Nano. THANK YOU SISTER *hugs

I found out that I'm a night writer -- if its like 3 p.m. and I try to sit down and write its like *crickets
then 9:30p.m it's like *click click click click click* *glances up at sarah who is also clicking away
 me -"Turn the music up."
sarah -*glares at me* "PLEASE?"
me - *rolls eyes* "plllleeeeaaaasse."

basically I'm so in love with my characters right now that I can promise you that this story isn't stopping. 60k is my goal, and be sure, it's going to happen. I was legit about to cry today when a little girl was dying.. AND GUYS I WAS WRITING IT. like what even?!?! uhg #writerslife

*cough cough* I'm road testing on Wednesday PPRRRAAAYYYYY

Did you complete Camp Nano??
Do you have a writing buddy?

  11. I can relate to the whole 'cry as you write' conundrum: I had to kill off one of my characters recently and I was just screaming in my head "WHHHYYYY???"

Congratulations on 30K! I've never done NaNo, but maybe I will nest time around. As for writing buddies....well, people in my immediate vicinity basically run a mile when I even ask them to read a paragraph. So that's a no-no.

  13. CONGRATULATIONS ON FINISHING CAMP, JULIA!!!! Totally fantastic job - 30,000 words? That's half of your novel, girl!

You guys sound like you have fun writing together... (Seriously. Why can't I write with you guys too?!? #SHOULDHAPPENSOMETIME ;)) And I love how you have a file with notes AND ACTUAL PICTURES. Totally need to do that. I mean, I've got a board, but it'd be so cool to have pictures up on a cork-board or something right next to me while I write... Totally gotta do that someday. :)

Your writing sounds like it's going AMAZING. THAT ROCKS. You're gonna let me read the finished book, right?! ('Cause I want to find out what happens, you know...)

    1. MICAIAH CONGRATS FOR YOU TOO!!!! I know...well, maybe, unless I end up going WAY long. xD xD

Writing is a lot more fun with Sarah, though I have learned that I can write without her. but...uh, I tend to write very morbidly when she's gone. O.O YES IT SHOULD HAPPEN. Oh you have a cork board, that's so cool! I use the file so when I'm writing, I can just pull out the person and describing constantly is waaay easier. XD

Hahaa, we shall see dear ;) Maybe I'll end up sending you like the last sentence or something LOL!!! IM SO EVIL *laughs*

    2. THANK YOU SO MUCH, GIRL! But you rocked NaNo. 30,000 words?! I gotta do that sometime. ;) Well, Julia, I'll just say... Go with it. Don't pressure yourself into 50,000 or 60,000 words if you need more room for your characters to grow and for the plot to unfold. Just hold God's hand and go along with it... It'll be great! <3

It sounds SO FUN TO HAVE A PERMANENT WRITING BUDDY. I wish I could write with you guys. So, so much. I just wanna hang out for reals. WHY DO WE LIVE SO FAR AWAY?!?!?!?! *cough* actually, I don't have a cork board. XD I meant a Pinterest board - link here: https://www.pinterest.com/micaiahkeough1/trapped-on-the-islands-of-panama/. I would take a cork board though. ;) YESSS. Sounds like a great plan! ERG. I need better Pinterest pictures for my characters... They just aren't the perfect fit. OH WELL. Have yourself a look around at the board and tell me what you think... ;)

THAT IS EVIL. ;) Joking! But goodness, Julia... you gonna keep a girl in suspense?!

OHHHH BESS THATS HORRID. did you sign into your account when you were working on the photos?? Cause I think that's the only way that the photos would be able to save. GAH IM SO SORRY *cries*

  16. 1. That bun. Why does my hair never turn out like that.
    2. What is your story about?
And 3. Will you put it out somewhere for us to read?! Because I'd totally pay for it if it's anywhere close to as good as your blog posts :D.
And I loved your conversation with Sarah. Totally me and my sis. Then I would end up being the one to turn it up... Sometimes I think she and I both missed the memo that I'm the older of the two ;). I love writing, but I always either lose focus, or freeze up because I'm afraid of ruining the unfinalized scenes I envision... so I have nothing to show much to show for it... :p

      2. It's this most realistic romance western, set back in the 1880's. It's quite heartbreaking really. lol! A mail order bride leaves Boston to marry a man who lives in Nebraska.
      OH GOSH SERIOUSLY?!! woowww....
Hahaa! sisters are so much fun ;)

  17. Woo, that is awesome! :) Congrats. I can totally relate to the feeling of being absolutely in love with and consumed by your characters and own story. That is such a beautiful feeling! Also, I love the first photo in this post. I use photos just like those to help me write, so to see your "writer files" was super cool. ;)

P.s. I am a total night writer, too. Can't get anything done unless it's from the window of 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. GOSH
