My Dad took my two sister's and I to a restaurant and Antique shop for an early Valentine's treat! It was sooo much fun! I spent a great deal of time looking at the old books..there were so many to take in. :D I actually ended up buying 7 books for the grand total of $7! Yahoo! If you scroll up, you will see pictures of all 7 books that I bought. The "Mother's Encyclopedia" set was soooo awesome to find. I was jumping for joy when I found out I could purchase them for a $1 each! I also bought a book called "The Pathfinder", but I really only got this book for the cover. The awesome quote on there was priceless! (that is the grey book above a bit).
The building is actually a Bed&Breakfast now! It used to be a hotel back in it's day. The lady who worked at the antique shop told me stories of when she was younger. She actually worked in the hotel with her best friend making around $2 every Sunday serving meals. She said that once in a while she got a tip, and that was fun. :D I had a great afternoon!
Did you do anything for Valentine's Day?
Do you like buying old books?
That's soo neat! I love old bookstores and antiques, they have such a book-ish feel to them. That's so cool that you got 7 books for $7! A dollar a book - not something you see in most modern bookstores nowdays :D I would love to hear someone tell stories about when they were younger, that would just be so awesome. I didn't do much for Valentine's Day, just helped around home and ate chocolate :) I just baked some peanut butter blossoms though, and literally half of the batch got burned. Oh well, I just cut off the burnt part and am now enjoying a yummy snack :)
ReplyDeleteI know!! I couldn't believe it either! The lady was sooo funny. The books didn't have a price on them, so she said "How about a dollar each? I might get fired for this, but oh well." :D Yes, they were so cool! She was surprised when I told her how many books I own. I actually just did a count of them the other day.. I just reached 50 that I own. :) Mmm..chocolate and candy. My parents gave us all each a little bag of candy as well. I've never heard of peanut butter blossoms! I would have love to tried some of your's. :) How was your Sunday?
Deletelol, she sounds pretty funny! hopefully she wouldn't get fired :) You own 50 books? that's pretty impressive :) I don't own a whole lot of books, but I mainly get them from t he library. Mm.... what kind of candy did you get? Well, they're basically just like peanut butter cookies with hersey kisses in the center. they're soooo good. *hands you cookies through computer screen, then realized that that is impossible* Yeah, it was pretty good. I tried going sledding, but it was SO windy and bitterly cold. So i gave up :)
DeleteHaha, I doubt that she will. :D I surprised myself! lol I thought I was more around the 20 range, but I've been adding, so that helps. :) Yeah, most of the books that I am reading right now come from the library. What are you reading right now? Ohhh, I got those candy hearts, gummy hearts, chocolate hearts, and a candy sucker heart. Yup...loads of hearts. :D I actually saw those on your latest post. :D They looked really good. :) Uhg, I wish it was possible!! I know, we had -28 wind chill with winds up to 40 mph! What was it like for you?
DeleteOh that looks so fun! And I absolutely love the quote on the cover of that book! Great post, Julia as always! :D

It was! :) Hahaa, me too! I wrote in all the books today, just like the people who owned the books before did. "Julia Ryan ;), 2015 bought this book for $1". I wonder if it will still be around in a 100 years? :D
Delete*Thud*
ReplyDeleteThose books.. all $1 I cannot cope...
Seriously tho that is AMAZING my historical sense is tingling :D
*huge grin*
DeleteI couldn't either! I was walking around with a sappy grin on my face for the rest of the day. :D I think you would love this place very much..but it would be impossible for you to like it more than I do. ;)
Interesting! Also, I might be really really slow on this, but are you related to Sarah from Trusting in the Lord? I read both of your posts and they both sound like you got to go eat dinner and go to an antiques shop... Gosh, I am so slow. XD
ReplyDeletexoxo Morning
Thanks! Actually yes, we are! She is the younger sis. ;) Though, sometimes, it feels like she knows more than me. LOL! So...which post did you like better? ;) Did she do a better way of posting than I? I think we would both love to know! Oh, and beware, our older sister (Bree from Cover Up For Christ) will be doing a post soon too.. :D
DeleteI love that quote!! Haha. Oh, that's awesome!! Jealous....I love old stuff! lol
ReplyDeleteHahaa, I know, it was too perfectly true. :D Well, maybe someday I'll share with you. ;)
DeleteGoodness! It seems so magical there! It looks like you found some great things and heard some lovely stories. <3 I personally love buying old books. I love wondering whose book it was before. Great post!
ReplyDeleteIt truly was!! I had a great afternoon making new memories! How many old books do you own? :)
DeleteHow absolutely quaint! :) You have to tell me what exactly is in the Mother's Encyclopedia. It looks darling!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I will! I'm sure I could take thousands of photos for you. :D
DeleteHaha I'm sure you could! :)
DeleteGreat post Julia! Sounds like you had a lot of fun!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Maddy, we did! :)
DeleteOh my, that shop looks absolutely beautiful! I adore old books. How fun that the worker told you a little about how it used to be!
