Candy and mud anyone?

March 18, 2014
The other day my family and I went on a family outing! There is a little Mennonite shop around our house and we look forward to our trips there. You know the feeling when you get to walk into a shop with all sorts of things and you are unable to make up your mind on the thing you want? Well, this is one of those shops! This wonderful place also sells bags of candy for really great prices. There are so many different things! My younger siblings love to each get something different so they can all trade. Oh, and I love doing that too! Hehe!

Usually in the Summer and Fall on the way to the shop you see horses and buggies. But this time I didn't see one.. I must admit that I was disappointed. I love seeing those beautiful animals!
After shopping in the store and everyone picked out there little treats, we all got back in the car and started trading our sweets. Just then, a horse and buggy pulled into the gravel parking lot. Or should I say mud parking lot? It was raining that day... Anyways! Immediately my little sister yells "Horsie!!!!" It was so close to her window that if it was summer and the window was open that she could have touched it! Oh, my! She was so excited. It was so sweet to watch! She had never seen a real horse before I think. Oh, and just as you would think, the little ones with their candy didn't notice the horse. You really have to be small to notice things like that, don't you?

All the way home you heard shouts such as "Two smarties for a gummy frog?" "No! I'll give 4 gum drops!" (Yes...the gummy frogs were a favorite. Hehe!) Then every once in a while you would hear; "Julia! Do you think that 4 smarties for 2 gummy frogs is fair?!" Hehe! By the time you get home you have at least one of everything or more!

Do you live on a dirt road? Or go on one often? Well, this year we have had a lot of snow and on those rare warm days, when the snow melts and the road becomes mud you get some nasty pot holes filled with water. Oh, how our van became a ATV! It was so funny to see a hole filled with water and laughing all the way through it! But... I don't think we will be laughing all spring... Let's hope it won't be like it all spring!

Yeah...that is how we looked! Haha!

In His joy,
  Julia Ryan

Oh yeah!

  1. Hahaha! Seems like they have gotten the hang of trading, haven't they? ;) Sara and I used to literally split our candies when we were younger! We'd snap a gummy worm in 2 pieces and enjoy it together. Oh sisters! :D It must have been lovely to visit the shop! Did you meet some locals? Oh, I dislike dirt roads as well! When we ride our bikes in the summer there is a long, smooth pavement road and then... BAM! An awful, bumpy road filled with dirt and rocks. :P And it is uphill! Ah...

Anyways, I loved this post, and I am really looking forward to reading more!!

    1. Well, you have to have a great trade to get yummy stuff! ;) It is really funny to look back at when I was younger. With my Bree and Sarah we would set up a whole store! We even had background music. :D It was such a blast, though we sometimes used real money. Like pennies. ;) I love memories! Haha! I want to see you going up a dirt road hill. ;) ♥
I cannot wait for more posts on your blog!

  2. Oh what fun! I would love to go to an Mennonite shop! Gummy frogs must be very popular in your family:D Ha ha!:) We don't get candy very often so when we do the little ones are all over it! I took my very first lesson in driving last night! (On a dirt road) It was so fun! But there was a whole lot of bumps!

  5. Ha ha! My whole family trades candy back and forth, including my parents :D!!!!!

Seems like you all had so much fun visiting that Amish store! It sounds a bit like Lehman's, we visit it about once every-other year in Ohio. There are always TONS of Amish and Mennonite folk there.
I really enjoyed this post, can't wait for more!!!

P.S. Is the pic of the van on the dirt road y'alls van?! We live on a dirt road, but our mud is totally different. It's hard to describe WV. mud, other than it gets EVERYWHERE, on EVERYTHING. It is very slick and thick, and you can easily get stuck in it.

  6. We often trade with our parents as well, but we usually just enjoy giving them treats. :) You go to Ohio!? You never told me that before! Hahaha! No, that is not our van! Our van is much bigger! Your mud sounds annoying. :P
