$179.99 at the bottom of my purse // dandelion gold

April 22, 2016
I got my blue bike a little over two years ago. *cringes from looking at a old post...* This spring, I kept looking at the rust on my bike and inwardly moaning. okay okay, I've left it outside in the rain a few times - I admit it! the poor bike.. I consider it vintage because the little red sticker that I found says it was manufactured in 1978..that's vintage..right??

I fell in love with a bike at the store the other day - $179.99 bucks!! Like oh yeah, I can totally discover THAT at the bottom of my purse. SAID NOBODY EVER. soooooooo, I grabbed a can of $3.98 coral spray paint and I DIY-ed it. (and yes, I realize the color looks very orange-y in the photos..I'm sorry. :P)

I often snatch Sarah's adorable fujifilm camera -- and she usually runs after me, which turns into a hysterical chase around the house and then into the yard where I'm laughing so hard I collapse into a fit of giggles -- and I take walks with my siblings. "JULA, look...DANDELIONS!!" They're gold to kids.

What do you consider vintage??
Do you borrow your sibling's camera?

  1. I think a bike from the 1970s can definitely be considered vintage. I think anything over 50-70+ years is vintage, right? Oh wait, that makes my parents vintage, haha!

I have a piano accordion that's 50+ years old. My dad bought it when he was 9 years old and it was already used when he first bought it and I like to consider it a vintage artifact. It'd be interesting to discover whether or not there is a "technical" definition of vintage.

Anyway, I love what you did with the bike! I think that's a great color, especially for summertime. Your photos are always beautiful. The one of your sister picking dandelions makes me think of when my brothers were little boys and they would play outside with their toy light-sabers "slaying" all the dandelions.

    1. oh I laughed so hard after reading that!! lol!! My parents don't hit vintage yet..I'm sure my mom would be ecstatic to hear that. hehe!

oooohhhhh!! I just googled it and it looks like 1975 or 1979 to the LATEST is considered vintage! whoop whoop! In between that you call it a Classic and then..New. :P Who wants new anyways?! ;) Oh goodness..that sounds soo cool! Have you ever posted any photos of it anywhere? I would love to see!

I totally agree. I really had a hard time deciding on the color -- they had a light blue, a bright pink, a pastel green (which reminded me of Easter..lol), and I even considered a silverish grey! I had a hard time. :P But, I knew coral is just sooo cute. Aww..thank you Dani! That is a huge compliment to me. Oh that's so cute! I really want to cherish these moments and capture what I can, with memory and camera.. I love these little sidekicks of mine. ;)

    1. Oh thanks!! It really was easy! I am a bit frustrated that I can't do anything about the handle bars (the blue part) though.. I know if I try to spray paint them, it won't stay. :P Oh well.. guess I should have thought of that before buying "orange". ;)

Ohhhhhhhhhh!! I wish!!! That would totally make for an adventure..I'm not sure what I would do if I found that much in the bottom of my purse. :P What would you do? ;)

  8. Nice job on the bike, Julia! I think orange is unique... ;) I guess maybe things from the 70s and beforehand can be vintage?? I dunno for sure, but the bike is definitely cute! (And kinda vintage-y looking! Does it look like Anne's bike in AOGG at all to you!? ;))

Nope, I don't borrow anyone's camera! Mostly because the only person who owns a nice camera is Jesse... (I have two, I think, but they aren't the nicest, and my phone is more portable, so I normally just use that! :P Jesse spent around $800 on his camera!!!)
