I grew up being an intense reader. It started out as most kids do. when I hit 10-12, we switched our library to the one I still go to. (not the one I am working at rn tho) It is a FANTASTIC place.
In fact, this May it'll be hitting 100 years old. yes... I'm really excited. XD It's a library jammed with history. I kid you not 90% of the books I read involved history - real life people living real life. I got attached pretty quickly.
To this day, a majority of the books I read are historical fiction. This isn't bc I have anything against different genres! In fact, I've read some pretty cool sci-fy and fantasy books, but I always pull back to what is my personal favorite - learning about people.
and then one day I discovered NON FICTION AND BROOOOOOO. that was a good day, yup.
It's just that I found learning from lives that have already been lived is an amazing thing. There is a lot of respect to be held for a lot of the people who have written the books as well. like SOME SUPER TOUGH THINGS HAVE HAPPENED. but they press on. they share their story. they share what has helped them thru the pain.
SOME OF MY TOP FAVORITE NON FICTION BOOKS
- The Hiding Place - Corrie Ten Boom
- JESUS FREAKS - D.C Talk
- Life without Limits + Unstoppable - Nick Vujicic
- SISTER FREAKS + HEARTS ON FIRE
- Maria - Maria Von Trapp
- Kisses from Katie - Katie Davis (ALSO I REALLY WANNA READ HER NEW ONE!!!)
- Into the Deep - Robert Rongers (don't read unless you wanna bawl at 4 am like I did..)
- The Magnolia Story - Chip + Joanna Gaines
- My name is Malala
- also all the cookbooks and gardening books and herb books. YUS
sorry I don't have more to list rn. I'm afraid I often forget to list the non-fiction books I read............NEED TO WORK ON THAT. I also have waaayyy too many biographies that I want to read *covers face*
Last month I was asked to pick a favorite new book that I would recommend at the library. I actually seriously struggled with this. as you now know, most of the books I love are old. In the end, I did pick one about herbs bc dude. ITS SUCH A COOL BOOK. that was kinda the moment when I realized loving non-fiction was actually me.
and yes..... I freak out every single time we get a new food book/cook book. ITS LIKE FOOD BLOGS BUT OH MAN THE PHOTOS. I check them all out hahhaaaa XD #lovemyjob
me with food and books lol |
I'll admit that I am a book addict. about 99% of my day involves them + words. AND I'M 100% OKAY WITH THAT.
what is your favorite genre + 1 book in it....
most liked non fiction book you've read?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE NON-FICTION BOOKS, although I love fiction books a lot too! I think I like them equally!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite non-fiction book I've ever read is "Tortured For His Faith" by Haralan Popov. Have you ever read it? I really loved that book. Haralan Popov's faith is incredible. He amazes me. He loved the Lord so much that he was willing to go through years of torture for Him. If you've never read it you totally should ;)
Loved this post btw
Maddy || Little Bit Of Sunshine
YUSSSSSSSSS ANOTHER NON FICTION LOVER. and almost same but non fiction just slightly tips the edge. And, no I haven't. I do believe I've heard of the title tho! thanks for telling me about the book!! I'll look it up

Fun post, Julia! To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of non fiction books, but I want to start reading more this year. :)) Probably my favorite non fiction book is either "The Hiding Place" and something else.....but I can't think of the title, lol.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite genre is either contemporary or dystopian (Hunger Games series & Out of Time series).
thanks Allison!! Oh yes, the Hiding Place is sooooooo good! hahhaa! I forget titles all the time too..thankfully I have a good memory for what a book looks like XD XD
DeleteI only started to read stuff other than only historical fiction last summer. My heart is still with Historical Fiction, but I've really been getting into YA fiction, Christian fiction, and dystopian (a little). I also enjoy nonfiction, but fiction is hands down better. :)

Deletemmm yes those are both sooo good. I JUST GOT THE NEW ONE FROM OUR LIBRARY AND AM ORDERING IT FOR A BOOK REVIEW THING I DO FOR FREEEEEEEEEEEE so pumped right now
I love all genres EXCEPT for teen-trash and horror. xDD I value good literature no matter what the book is -- be it non-fiction, or fiction (which I read mostly), romance, adventure, mystery ect...I'M JUST A BIG READER. Gimme a good book, and BOOM goodbye please don't bother me anymore. I LOVE YOUR PERSONALITY THOUGH IT IS LIKE THE BESTTT. So esthetic, I mean legit I don't know anybody as cool as you who reads books about herbs. <333
ReplyDeleteLOL!! True. I had to pick 3 books that I would NOT recommend and wow that was sooooo easy for me! I kinda wish I were like that..but I tend to get stuck in a reading rut and just stick with it for a while. XD
DeleteAW GOSH GIRL YOU'RE SWEET. thanks <3 (but for real go order a book on herbs they're fab)
I KNOW RIGHT?! Same lol <33
DeleteAwww, every word is true girlfriend!!
MM YES GO NONFICTION. I was getting ready to leave a list of my recommendations and collect up all yours but then I was like "Wait... have we done this before?" LOL.
ReplyDeleteAlso btw your first one I'm tackling is "The Magnolia Story." (I'M TRUSTING YOU THAT IT'S NOT ROMANCE-Y OKAY.) Except I have to read "1776" by David McCullough first because I already have it from the library and I don't want to have to re-request it hahaha.
MM YES YES YES. lol I knew you'd agree with me on this one. hahaa! truth. And I've recently just read like 4 more to add..like. so. many. books.
Deletewoah really? why did you pick that one? (LOL TRUST ME but tbh you probably will be like the kid on princess bride *inserts "is this a kissing book" gif* just cuz) ohhh fun read. enjoy lol! (legit shelved that book the other day pretty sure)
Tbh it was because my library had it available... which in hindsight doesn't make much sense because I can't read it yet until I'm done with the other one anyways? OH WELL.
DeleteHahaha except YES I'm pretty sure that gif is me for basically every book
I read the book in like........a day? YUP PRETTY SURE. it's a light and fun read, I assure you
DeleteLOL ITS SO YOU
This is a pretty groovy post, Jules! <3<3<3 But your posts are always groovy. *winks* Love the new design so much!!
ReplyDeleteHEYYY GIRL IVE MISSED YOUR COMMENTS *sobs* aww thanks LOVE YOU
DeleteMy favorite genera I would say is dystopian but I also absolutely love historical!
ReplyDeleteack! Don't you just love books?!?! <3
DeleteI love historical fiction and non fiction too!! Definitely two of my favorite genres. In historical fiction my favorite would probably be Salt to the Sea and in non fiction it would probably be This Changes Everything. Both really great books!!
ReplyDeleteEEP YES! There are fantastic books in those genres or sure!! I still really want to read This Changes Everything -- hopefully soon!! just gotta wait for it to not be so new then I can order it lol!
DeleteI love novels, and I still LOVE novels, but I have also begun to find an interest in non-fiction books! I love books about life, and other people's real lives, and what they were able to accomplish through God. I've read The Hiding Place (such a moving book), Limitless and Life Without Limits (LWL is just... GAHHH SUCH AN AMAZING BOOK) and a book about the von Trapp family (although I think it was a different one to what you read - but it was written by Maria). And I love cookbooks. xD
ReplyDeleteSome of MY favourite non-fiction books that I've read (off the top of my head, and excluding other books that are more based on theology but aren't written by theologians) are:
Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton
Joni by Joni Eareckson Tada
Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist
I've put Kisses from Katie on my TBR list. :D
I've recently gotten super into non-fic too! My current favorite is a book called "sourdough" that teaches me everything I need to know about how to make it, but also as you said, the pictures!! It's so aesthetic :D
