ALL ABOUT FRIENDS [sorta]

April 18, 2018

I wish I could tell you that I had the secret to friendships being loveliness and lasting forever + ever. but if I did I would be a superhero, which I'm not..sorry. tbh I'd love it for myself too lololol

I could go into a long detailed list about how other people/friends do certain things that suddenly make you feel like you have a -108290458289 IQ level and...well THAT JUST ISN'T COOL. but truthfully, I'd like to focus on how we can be a good friends in return. I've struggled with the thought process of "oh well, why should I be the friend who does the nice things or says the nice things when they just sit there doing nothing" for a really long time.

the thing with having friendships is eEVVERRYONE is DIFFFERENT.  there can't possibly be a cookie cutter template on how to have the perfect friendship (LOL AND DON'T ASK FOR 5 EASY STEPS) bc we as humans are individuals with ideals, goals, hidden agendas (or not), blessings to share, lessons to glean from and give, and most importantly, feelings.

myself being a friend to A LOT of amazing peeps out there, I know there is a special something that we tend to connect on.

for me it might be :

  • Jesus (tbh it's usually Him)
  • things we have in common. ie. writing, reading, goals
  • a conversation where a glimpse of the heart shows and I'm like OK WOW I GET YOU
  • food lololololol

the list would go a mile if I let it. but you get the gist. in fact, you probably know it of yourself.

also BEWARE bc the words that come out of your mouth can be heard way different than the way you heard them in your head. listen to your tone, pay attention to the reaction, and most importantly, be aware of the trauma your friend has endured. indeed. (bc lol you could be talking about ice cream and that might be something that freaks them out or something (OH SADNESS AM I RIGHT))

be the friend you'd love to have.
aka treat others as you want to be treated.
or "love your neighbor as yourself" -Jesus

truthfully, it can't be all that hard. obviously don't be put all of your energy into a friend who takes enjoyment out of bullying/teasing/putting you down - but don't give up on that friend. you may be the only one willing to do that.

p.s. BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THE SURPRISE THIS WEEKEND. I'm hoping to have it ready + a blogpost explaining it by Sat. or Sun. SOOO EXCITED. literally flailing.

  1. First: SO EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THE SURPRISE IT BECAUSE I'M SURE IT'S EPIC!!!
Second: THIS POST IS EPIC!! I have gone through so many seasons of life where I have a good amount of friends to right now where my friend group consists of those I speak to on Blogger and Goodreads because of where I'm at in life.

I feel like in those moments, God is teaching me how to be content with being by myself. But this post has reminded me to be the friend you want to have and to show kindness. Thank you. <3

Third: Thank you for following my blog. I try so hard to make sure I thank those who take the time to hit that follow button because it really does mean the world to me. <3 So thank you so much.

  2. I've been thinking a lot about how to be/what makes a good friend, so this post was just super great and gave me something to think about.
Also, because you asked and I love talking about books, I'm currently reading Norse Mythology by Neal Gaiman. Really good! I've been on such a mythology kick recently!

  4. hey :) this just made me think about how when we used to talk all the time and now i feel like life has just moved on..i didn't have friends growing up and wasn't invited to events my sister was. that was life. and i have seen it even now.. and i start to question maybe that people just don't like me. but even if they don't that kind of thing barely bothers me now knowing how much it costs to be "cool" and in the "in crowd"... i am very forgiving and i will still be friends to those who dump me for the cool ones and stab me in the back but if my friend doesn't "want" me i just move on and learn my own lessons on how people are shallow and selfish and remind myself not to do the same.

  5. I AM READY FOR THE SURPRISE. SO READY.
i enjoyed reading this. i wish there was a tried and true formula for the perfect friendship, but that would mean there was no uniqueness among people, and that would be really sad.
i just finished reading replication, by jill williamson, and midnight at the electric, by jodie lynn anderson.

  6. Ahh yes thank you for your insight, Julia. I personally don't think I know a lot about how to make friends (or keep them, for the matter) but I'm so so grateful for the ones I do have!

(ALSO LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SURPRISE)
