2 weeks of NO SUGAR // blog revamp

May 27, 2016

Often I get myself into little fixes because of my *cough cough* pride. I was watching the new documentary about sugar on Netflix called “Sugar Coated”. I was squirming in my chair because I started to realize that I was addicted to sugar. I told my friend that I was considering going on a no sugar diet. She was like “Good luck with that!” and me –being me – said “To prove you wrong, I am going to go TWO WEEKS without sugar.”

So far, so good. It’s been 3 days now. No withdrawals yet…although I did have a dream about needing to quickly buy sugar. I had like 60 seconds to shop in this gigantic store. Yes, I did watch Cutthroat Kitchen last night. *blush* I do miss my lemonade, mint gum, and ice cream. *sigh

You may have noticed the new blog design. Welcome, welcome!! How do you like it? I have a few finishing touches to add, but my absolute favorites would have to be the instagram bar on the bottom of the page, my most popular post area and all the cool search bar thingys. xD Isn't it FANTASTIC?! (that's my new word of the week)

Have you ever gone for a period of time without sugar??
How do you like my new blog design?

  1. I know you can do it. ;) Remember . . . it's just fourteen days. Lol! I went without something for fourteen days! 😂 And let's admit . . . it's a MILLION TIMES better than sugar. Maybe you can start make lists of fourteen things like I did. ;)
Have to tell you again . . . LOVE your new blog look!! I'm going insane because IT'S SO CUTE!! And I love the kindred spirits bar. ;)

    1. I know I can too - it really hasn't been that hard. But....I did want a cookie really bad today.. LIKE REALLY BAD. Um. I'm sorry, but I think sugar is a bit better. ;) Gasp if you will. LOL!

    2. I know, I'm so proud of you!! I'm a sugar freak, so I never can and never will go without sugar again. I think it shows strength to do little things like this, though. I mean, wanting a cookie is a pretty strong craving!! But you didn't fall for it. ;) It's a pretty picture of our Christian walk. Except the sugar is something really bad like . . . oh I don't know. Soda?? It tastes good but it's REALLY REALLY BAD FOR YOU AND ONCE YOU HAVE IT YOU REGRET IT!! Lol.
Okay, you can have your sugar, I'll have my item of value lol. ;) Maybe I would go without sugar just for that . . . idk. Probably not.
I do too!! ;) I mean . . . the fonts though!! And the little bar thing underneath the posts is ADORABLE!! I die every time I see it. I keep seeing your blog underneath my most visited sites thingie on my home page and I'm like WHOA THAT'S SO PRETTY oh it's Julia's blog. ;)

    3. Hahaa!!! I think you COULD if you really wanted to. ;) Now..pizza on the other hand..that may be a problem. lol Wow, so true. Thanks for pointing that out - made me feel a lot better. :D
Yes, you can have your item of value. xP Hahaa! I would say so, you naughty girl. ;)
I LOVE THE FONTS TOO!!! That was totally one of my favorite things. I adore how the comment form looks. ;) Gosh girl! You're so sweet. xD I am just so glad it turned out. You know me and changes...

    4. If I really really really really wanted to. But I won't. Ever. lol ;) WOW I SOUNDED SO DEEP THERE!! I'm gonna write a whole book on how food has spiritual parallels lol!! 😂
I have this thing for tall condensed fonts . . . that's the graphic designer in me. Haha you are very welcome. :) Stuff like this is so my thing. I'd love to design websites too, but not like code-y stuff. More like actual design, lol.
Okay I just noticed this . . . the last picture in this post looks perfect for my pied piper retelling lol!!!! I imagine that as where the poor dude lives. It looks perfect for, like, a writing prompt.

  2. I've done this before! It's not easy since refined sugar is in almost anything! I lost count of the days I did it, but I think it was a while. Your blog looks great by the way!

    1. I KNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOWWWWW. I've decided that whatever I do, I can't get away from ALL sugar. Like, you need the 2 tablespoons of sugar in bread. :P My main goal is to avoid candies, any drink OTHER than water, and anything with over 2 tablespoons of sugar. ;P Thanks Vanessa!! I love it too :D

  3. I have gone sugar free for a few days at a time before, and don't think I've ever made it even a week... because I always break down when it comes to someone eating ice cream in front of me. I can't handle that. Hahahaha!!!! I usually don't eat a ton, but after the past few weeks, I feel like all I ever eat is junk... I can't wait to get settled at our new house and be back to our regular routine and meals, haha!
And the blog design is delightful :)!

    1. PLEASE. don't talk about *faints from weakness* ice cream. *COUGH and dies*

Oh, I didn't realize you were moving! how is that going? Oh, I totally get that. :P I haven't really ever moved ( I don't count the time when I was 6..that just isn't the same), but I can totally imagine the mess and disarray which comes with moving. :P

      Aww, thank you!

    2. I'M SORRY. I think I forgot you were still on this thing. I feel so bad now, hahaha! Sorry....

Oh... haha... yeah... I'm a pretty bad blogger :P. I meant to (finally) share about us moving last Friday... and then I was sick and slept all day. Soooooo, yeah. But anyway. We're not moving ourselves, we're having the services come and do it for us since Daddy's company will pay for it. So, it's not *as* bad as it could be. But after our house hunting trip, three birthdays, a visit from out-of-state friends, and my Mama is going to be out of town this weekend for her uncles funeral, and then we're moving next week... it's been/going to be the most exhausting 6-8 weeks we've had for a while!

    3. LOL!! No - no, it's really fine. ;) I'll survive.

Aww, you were sick! probably from being tired. :P Woah. BUSY BUSY BUSY!! I think it's safe to say that your blog readers UNDERSTAND. ;)

  4. Your new design looks nice and professional. I like the tabs bar at the top, and your new profile photo too, along with the things you mentioned, of course. :)

Good on you for going sugar free! I know it can be hard; I'm actually doing it at the moment too. I'm not sure for how long though - I haven't set a time. (That's probably not a good thing, ha.)

    1. Oh, thank you Jessica!! That is one of the main reasons why I went with this design. It feels very, well, finished. :) Goodie!! I really like those things too. ;)

Hard is totally the word. Today I really wanted something sweet..I drank some orange juice instead. :P I'm determined to NOT eat sugar. lol You are?? Any tips?! Yes, setting a time really does help. I hope that by the end of two weeks, I'll be so over sugar that I won't even care. But let's face it, I would die without ice cream. :|

    2. My only tip would be to take the time and effort to make some nourishing (sugarless) food, so it's not so tempting to snack on sugary stuff. Or maybe just keep well away from the kitchen! :P

So you're still having sweet things, but not sugar? At the moment, I'm not having natural sugars either, and yes, that gets challenging. But I think it's good, because after a while I start to feel better, and more satisfied with food, and I guess I have the pride problem too - because I like to prove to myself that I'm not really addicted to sugar and sweet things, ha. :)

Are you already planning your meals for day fifteen? They're going to include plenty of ice-cream, right? ;)

    3. That's a very good tip! I've been snacking on a lot of popcorn..it lasts a long time and I can flavor it differently you know? My favorite is just plain salt and pepper. it's so yummy!

Nope - nothing sweet at all! Well, I did allow a bit of honey last night, but I count that as..well, HONEY. not sugar. lol ME TOO. Oh, me too. It's also encouraging to naturally lose weight. Eating the amount of sugar that I was before is. not. healthy.

yesssssss *blush* Ice cream and I REALLY WANT A DONUT. But, at the same time, I'm trying to convince myself that I can go longer without sugar. Who knows? Maybe I'll cut down to one day a week that I can have sweets? :P

    1. I'm on day 4 and honestly it isn't too bad if I drink tons of water and keep busy. xD But I am really starting to see that sugar IS an addiction. I wouldn't have this problem with anything else - well other than internet or something. But, see, addictions!! it's almost scary to find this out about yourself :P

Oh..thank you Hannah!! I really love it too. xD Woah!! You're observant! Yes, that is the shirt. It's super duper comfortable. Its totally a summer must in my wardrobe.

  6. Love the new blog design! It looks so professional.
YOU'RE DOING A SUGAR FREE DIET??? Oh i should like seriously join you. haha, i'm seriously the worst at it. I think I tried going sugar-free like twice before, and I somehow epicly fail. EVERY. SINGLE. TimE. ughghh. last summer i tried going fully raw for one day, and surprisingly, i made it for ONE DAY. it was so weird though. haha...i had baked this super yummy cottage cheese dessert the day before and the STRUGGLE WAS SO REAL. but, in all honesty, i really should go sugar free sometime. (key word:sometime). haha. :) GO JULIA!

  7. My sis and I watch Cutthroat Kitchen, together. So fun! I love your photography. It seems like you rode home with us, this past week, from church and snapped your hay bale pic... :) We passed a scene exactly like that. Love it!

Hope your no-sugar period continues to go well!

  9. Two weeks without sugar? Good on ya. ;) I once went almost two months eating mostly no starch. Meaning no potatoes. No bread. No noodles. I let myself have beans. Haha. Yeah... I've done some crazy diets actually!

The new blog design is nice! I like your updated profile picture and the little about me section under it. ;) And the pictures in this post are so detailed! You must have a very nice camera!!
